BUDAPEST
Heroes' Square is situated next to the City Park on the Pest side of the capital, surrounded by the Museum of Fine Arts to the north, the Mucsarnok - Contemporary Hungarian Arts Museum on the south, the City Park lake and ice-skating ring on the east, and Andrassy Boulevard on the west. The square is one of the most visited tourist sites in Budapest. The Millennium Monument in between the museums was fist built in 1986, for the millennial of the Hungarian conquering of the region. The statue of Archangel Gabriel is located in a central position, on a 36-metre high pillar. At the feet of the pillar, leaders of the seven conquering Hungarian tribes are depicted. The pantheons in semi-circle include statues of Hungarian kings and national freedom fighters.
